The feedback from the scoresheets for WEEK 18 was as follows:
SCORES:
Winners:
8.5: The Vic
8: Carleton Grangers, Flanagan’s Army, Lofthouse Lions
7: Golden Lion Dudes, The Other Team
Non-winners:
9: King’s Arms
8: Kippax British Legion, Olde Taverners
7: Kippax Legionnaires, Olde Tavern Allsorts
6: Featherstone Phoenix
COMMENTS:
Golden Lion Dudes: Testing rounds.
Featherstone Phoenix: First two rounds very tricky. Quiz favoured B.
[Phoenix’s comments are borne out to some extent by the figures below.]
The Other Team: Good round subjects.
Kippax British Legion: Very enjoyable.
Olde Taverners: Interesting rounds but difficulty was all over the place.
[Questions are of course meant to range from easy to difficult during each round, but perhaps the Taverners are saying this wasn’t well adhered to.]
The Vic: Good spread, first round difficult compared to rest.
[Definitely so – see below.]
Carleton Grangers: Very good game. Great spirit.
STATISTICS:
The numbers of questions remaining unanswered (by either team) in rounds 1/2/4/7/9/10 were as follows (in the 6 matches, expressed as A-B):
1-3
2-2
4-2
4-4
7-5
8-6
26-22 (Total)
Split by rounds instead of matches, the same unanswered questions break down as:
15-9 (Inventions)
1-2 (Colours in the Answer)
4-1 (Pop albums)
1-1 (Towns and cities)
1-0 (Abbreviations)
4-9 (In the News)
The Inventions round was clearly very hard, accounting for exactly half of all the unanswered questions.
There was one answer not got by anyone in the FTQL on the night, which not surprisingly was in the Inventions round:
Abraham Lincoln (Only US President with a patent)
There were five questions not answered in the Lofthouse/Taverners match that were answered by other teams (three of them in the Inventions round), as follows:
Cristofori (Inventor of piano): Carleton, Flanagan’s
Papin (Inventor of pressure cooker’s forerunner): Carleton, Allsorts
Puckle (Inventor of first ‘machine gun’): Flanagan’s
Made in England (Atomic Rooster and Elton John albums): Carleton, Flanagan’s
As Ever (New name of Meghan Sussex’s lifestyle brand): King’s Arms
