Neil's Weekly Question Round-Up - Week 16

The feedback from the scoresheets for WEEK 16 was as follows:

SCORES:

Winners:

8.5: Lofthouse Lions

8: Carleton Grangers

7: Flanagan’s Army, Kippax Legionnaires, Olde Tavern Allsorts

Non-winners:

8: Featherstone Phoenix, Olde Taverners

7: Golden Lion Dudes, Kippax British Legion, The Vic

COMMENTS:

Lofthouse Lions: Good set – bit tougher this week.

The Vic: Some tough rounds.

Olde Taverners: Varied rounds, interesting questions.

Olde Tavern Allsorts: Good switch from ‘B’ to ‘A’!

Featherstone Phoenix: A decent mix.

Carleton Grangers: Good quiz.

STATISTICS:

The Allsorts felt favoured by swapping to ‘A’ at half-time. The unanswered questions (rounds 1/2/4/7/9/10) were 6-5 in the first half in that match, so if anything they’d been favoured as ‘B’ to that point. But the second half was 2-3, favouring ‘A’ slightly. The totals for that match were nevertheless a perfect 8-8.

I checked these figures in two other matches, including one where the reader felt ‘A’ were a little favoured. The totals for those two matches were 3-3 in the first half and 5-8 in the second half, suggesting there was indeed a favouring of ‘A’, at least later in the quiz.

The toughness of the quiz clearly extended to the individual questions, where one team failed to answer any of their eight for 2 points (the first time I remember seeing this), though they did pick up three 1-point bonuses. It didn’t, however, stop the Lofthouse Lions reaching 100 again, and Carleton Grangers would have joined them had they scored anything from the second 5 questions of the last round.

Two questions (both ‘B’) were not correctly answered by anyone in the FTQL:

Philip Noel-Baker (won Olympic 1500m silver and Nobel Peace Prize)

Mrs T (Dominic Sandbrook’s opera about Margaret Thatcher)
