Neil's Weekly Question Round-Up - Week 13

The feedback from the scoresheets for WEEK 13 was as follows:

SCORES:

Winners:

9: Lofthouse Lions

8: Carleton Grangers, Golden Lion Dudes

7: Flanagan’s Army, Kippax British Legion

Non-winners:

8: Featherstone Phoenix, Kippax Legionnaires, Olde Taverners

7: Olde Tavern Allsorts, The Other Team, The Vic

COMMENTS:

Carleton Grangers: Good quiz – very tight.

Kippax Legionnaires: Irish cities, question A4, largest city = Cork.

[The question asked for Clare’s county town which is also the largest town in the province of Munster, and the answer was given as Ennis. It’s true that Cork is the largest city in Munster, but the question was probably making a distinction between towns and cities, and Ennis is indeed the largest town in Munster, whose three larger settlements – Cork, Limerick and Waterford – are all cities.]

Lofthouse Lions: Another good set.

Olde Taverners: Good rounds, slight imbalance towards A.

[See below for balance statistics.]

Golden Lion Dudes: Not enough philosophy.

[Tongue-in-cheek, because one of the rounds was Philosophy.]

Featherstone Phoenix: Good mix.

The Vic: Reasonable mix.

The Other Team: Fair quiz.

STATISTICS:

The numbers of questions remaining unanswered (by either team) in rounds 1/2/4/7/9/10 were as follows (in the 6 matches, expressed as A-B):

2-4

2-6

6-4

6-5

4-7

10-12

30-38 (Total)

This suggests there was indeed a slight favouring of ‘A’.

Split by rounds instead of matches, the same unanswered questions break down as:

9-6 (The island of Ireland)

1-5 (1980s pop music)

8-6 (Philosophy)

8-12 (Boardgames & Cardgames)

3-4 (Human body)

1-5 (In the News)

There was one answer not got by anyone in the FTQL:

Axe/halberd (What the King of Diamonds has behind his left shoulder)

This is the one-eyed King, and the weapon is not being held by him as such (unlike the swords being held by the other three Kings).
