Neil's Weekly Question Round-Up – KO Cup Rd 1

The feedback from the scoresheets for the KO CUP RD 1 was as follows:

SCORES:

Winners:

8: Carleton Grangers, King’s Arms, Lofthouse Lions, The Vic

7: Flanagan’s Army

Non-winners:

8: Olde Taverners, The Other Team

7: Kippax Legionnaires, Olde Tavern Allsorts

6: Kippax British Legion

COMMENTS:

Carleton Grangers: Perhaps a slight bias towards ‘A’.

Kippax Legionnaires: Some imbalance.

The Vic: Enjoyable quiz, good subjects.

Olde Taverners: Interesting rounds.

STATISTICS:

The numbers of questions remaining unanswered (by either team) in rounds 1/2/4/7/9/10 were as follows (in the 6 matches, expressed as A-B):

2-1

2-4

4-5

8-6

7-9

10-9

33-34 (Total)

The 2-4 match above was Carleton Grangers v Kippax Legionnaires, where there could indeed be said to be a slight bias towards ‘A’. But overall, the balance was excellent and, in total, only one question away from being perfect.

Split by rounds instead of matches, the same unanswered questions break down as:

6-9 (Architecture)

7-6 (British sports stars)

4-2 (American Presidents)

9-7 (People)

5-6 (Rivers)

2-4 (Actresses)

So the rounds also show a good balance.

The only answer not got by anyone in the FTQL was:

John Wornham Penfold (Victorian architect of hexagonal pillar boxes)

I suppose everyone thought, ‘Ah, that’s why the pillar box-dwelling Penfold in Danger Mouse is so called.’ That no doubt is the case, though in fact the Danger Mouse pillar box is cylindrical so not a Penfold one.
