Last night (16/12/2024), we held our mid-season meeting at the Olde Tavern in Pontefract and we had 11 of the 12 teams represented. Full minutes will be shared soon but as a summary of the key points:
People generally happy with the questions. A few mistakes have been noted and shared with the setter. A seems favourable against B but it appears to be getting less so as the season progresses.
The new split season format has gone down well with a few reservations about the extended question set.
An agreement was made for a new captain's challenge system where a different but still correct answer is given. See minutes for full details.
Agreement that use of prompts by question readers is acceptable if more information is needed.

As detailed in the AGM, the new split format means we now have true handicaps as all teams have played each other under the same format so the handicaps from the first half of the season are now set in stone and will be used for the Handicap Cup. You can find them here.
The divisions are now set as well with:
Division 1 Teams: Lofthouse Lions, Carleton Grangers, Kippax Legionnaires, Olde Taverners, The Vic, King’s Arms
Division 2 Teams: Flanagan’s Army, Olde Tavern Allsorts, Golden Lion Dudes, Kippax British Legion, The Other Team, Featherstone Phoenix
The points and scores from the first half of the season will remain with the teams for the second half and the tables have now been split (see here).

News from Simon
The other big news from the night was that League Secretary, Simon Curtis, has decided to step down. Simon will become honorary president of the league and remain on the committee until the end of the season. I will be taking over the secretary role until the end of the season. Simon will continue with his duty of packaging and circulating the questions for the remainder of the season and new arrangement will be made then.
We'd like to thank Simon for his 34 years of dedication to the league and we'll post a bit more about it at a later date.
Thanks to all who came along last night and a merry Christmas and a very happy new year to all members of the Five Town's Quiz League and your kin.
Ian
